Help Us to Support Patients with Dementia by Knitting TwiddleMuffs
TwiddleMuffs are recognised as being a great therapeutic tool for people living with dementia and items like these are often difficult to source as they are not something you can buy off the shelf at a shop! Ryman have had staff members make twiddle muffs and fiddle mats for residents and these have been well received. Not only do they provide tactile stimulation but also comfort and warmth.
Ryman have 27 retirement villages throughout New Zealand. Many of their residents living with dementia would benefit from this wonderful idea. Ryman will be distributing them to dementia residents in their villages.
They are a knitted muff with items attached so that a patient with dementia can twiddle their hands. People with dementia often have restless hands and like to have something to keep their hands occupied. It provides a wonderful source of visual, tactile & sensory stimulation and at the same time keeping hands snug and warm. The soft knitted muffs contain strands of textured ribbons, beads, zips, pom poms and various craft items which are attached both inside and outside.
This is a great way to use up your left over yarn from previous projects.
